Collection

The LUX Collection

The LUX collection contains over 4000 films and videos by over 1000 international artists, ranging from the 1920s to the present. It is the largest collection of its kind in Europe, containing much rare and unique material, and it continues to grow, with the addition of both new works and restored classics.

The collection is an active resource rather than a static archive and all of the works in the catalogue are available to hire for public screening or exhibition.

For works available to purchase on DVD for personal use, please see our online shop.

LUX Scotland is developing a new public collection and provides access to the LUX collection.

How can I view works from the LUX collection?

All the works in the LUX collection are available to view onsite at LUX in London and at the LUX Scotland office.

A complete list of works is available in our online catalogue, but please note that not all works will be available to view at short notice.

A selection of works is available to view online free of charge.

The collection can be viewed in the LUX Scotland office, and is accessible through our membership programme SUPERLUX. Visit the membership site to become a member, and book a time to come and view the LUX collection by completing our online form.

Please note that some works are not yet digitised and LUX Scotland does not currently have facilities for viewing print.

The collection can also be accessed remotely by coming a subscriber, please contact us at scotland [at] lux.org.uk for details.

How much does it cost?

SUPERLUX has been made free through generous support from Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. We intend to keep SUPERLUX free for all members, which is why we do not request any payments or financial subscriptions at the point of enrolment. We are therefore able to offer research viewing sessions free to all members.

Please note this service is often oversubscribed, so please give as much notice as possible when contacting us to arrange an appointment.

How do I book a viewing session?

To book a viewing session, you must be a member of SUPERLUX. Find out more, and sign up to become a SUPERLUX member, and gain access to research viewing sessions. For more information please email: scotland [at] lux.org.uk
