We are pleased to announce that our first online LUX Critical Forum Glasgow will take place in July.

The LUX Critical Forum is a peer-led monthly discussion group for artists, curators, writers, researchers and other arts professionals who work with the moving image to talk about ideas and practice in a mutually supportive environment.

To establish this new group, meetings will initially take place fortnightly and then after three introductory meetings (hosted by LUX Scotland) the group will set their own monthly meeting dates for September and beyond. Participants are expected to attend all three meetings and commit to the group for at least 6 months.

The first set dates are: 7 – 8.30pm on Tuesday 7 July, Tuesday 21 July and Wednesday 5 August.

The group will meet online, via ZOOM, and will be introduced by Eve Smith, Programme Manager, Learning and Professional Development at LUX Scotland. Eve will facilitate discussion for the first three meetings, then step back to allow the group to continue as a peer-led group, with future meetings organised and directed by the membership. LUX Scotland will continue to support the group by providing access to research viewings of work in the LUX collection.

To apply to join the group, please email email hidden; JavaScript is required by 10am on Thursday 25 June with a short description of a project that you are working on that you would benefit from discussing in the context of this group. Selected participants will be notified by 5pm on 25 June.

We will select participants based on those who would most benefit from peer learning, confidence and network building. Please note that the group is for those who are no longer in full-time education. We expect that the group will include participants at an earlier stage in their careers, artists returning to making work after a break, those at a later point in their careers who would value discussing their work and sharing research with a new peer group and those who are new to Glasgow who want to make local connections.

The group will have a maximum of 8 participants and over the course of the first three meetings each participant will be required to make one short presentation (up to 10 mins) about something they are currently working on and then take questions and feedback from the rest of the group in turn. The group will be informal, supportive and aims to establish a structure for mutual critical feedback for everyone taking part. Over time, the group can select works from the LUX Collection to all watch in advance of their meetings as the basis for discussion related to their individual research.

This is a group for Glasgow based artists that will eventually return to meeting in person when it is safe to do so. If you are based elsewhere in Scotland and are interested in joining a group like this, then please email email hidden; JavaScript is required
