Roundtable: FUTURE STATE #03

THE FUTURE STATE #03 is the third event in a series of roundtables which form part of artist Anahita Razmi​’s Goethe at LUX residency project THE FUTURE STATE. The project and associated roundtables aim to facilitate settings for discussions about what the future of Iran may look like.

This edition is realised with support from Mia Gubbay, Assistant Curator of Glasgow Museums ​‘Migration Collections Project’, and seeks to facilitate a conversation around selected objects from the Glasgow Museums Collection that in their fragments represent aspects of Iranian history.

Considering political histories, present contexts and exploring different diasporic perspectives on Iran’s potential future, the event invites its audience to consider the role of states on human movement, speculate on the possibility of alternative ​‘future states’, and in doing so contemplate a possible ​‘future archive’.

This event is an open roundtable in which all who attend are invited to participate in the discussion. Those attending are warmly invited to bring objects and memories that they would like to contribute to a ​‘future archive’. Rather than being donated, these objects and memories will form part of the discussion on the day.

In conjunction with the roundtable, artist Anahita Razmi will present TO COME SO FAR AND DIE IN SOMEBODY ELSE’S WAR, a screening programme featuring Razmi’s work alongside works from the LUX Collection at 7pm, 19 July at the Goethe-lnstitut Glasgow.

Anahita Razmi received a BS Projects scholarship at Braunschweig University of Art, Germany in 2017. Other residencies and awards include the Werkstattpreis of the Erich Hauser Foundation (2015), the MAK-Schindler Artists and Architects-in-Residence Program, Los Angeles (2013) and the The Emdash Award, Frieze Foundation (2011).
