Sound artist and composer Richy Carey leads this workshop that will consider the relationship between the apparatus that we use to access the material world and the diverse knowledge that this creates.

Different sound recording techniques and the ways that these can affect the weight and texture of sonic objects, as well as best practice for field recording will be explored. Participants will collectively compose a soundtrack to a short moving image work, considering how we might think diffractively’ about the intersection of light and sound.

Field recorders and microphones will be provided, although you are welcome to bring your own recorder too. If you have your own headphones please bring these with you.

Richy Carey is a sound artist and composer based in Glasgow, currently doing PhD research into the relationship between materiality, language and film sound. He often works with artists in designing sound for moving image works and installations.
