Call for applications

Deadline: midnight, evening of Monday 11 December 2017

In 2018 Cove Park, in association with LUX Scotland and Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival, will award up to four funded Experimental Film and Artists’ Moving Image Residencies of two to four weeks each during the summer months. Emerging or established artists and filmmakers, based in Scotland, are welcome to apply to this programme. The summer residencies will take place between April and September 2018.

Founded in 1999 by Peter and Eileen Jacobs, Cove Park creates year-round funded and self-funded residencies across all art forms for national and international artists, collaborative groups and organisations. Cove Park is located on an outstanding 50-acre site overlooking Loch Long on Scotland’s west coast (just 60 minutes from Glasgow by road or rail).

Funded Residency Programme

Cove Park’s summer residency programme provides the time and support for artists to focus exclusively upon their own practice. The emphasis is upon research, experimentation, creative exchange across art forms and the development of new work.

The artists /filmmakers will be part of a changing group of national and international residents specialising in a wide variety of art forms. Please see the website for information on those who have previously been awarded residencies at Cove Park. Artists are invited to take part in a series of informal studio presentations, talks, screenings and dinners organised by Cove Park throughout the summer programme. Residents may also have the opportunity to contribute to Hands-On Cove Park’, Cove Park’s public education and participatory programme of events and activities.

LUX Scotland will be available to work with resident artists to support the development of public outcomes of research (if appropriate). Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival will extend a special invitation to participants to have their work considered for their 2019 edition.

Facilities and Resources

Please see Cove Tour’ on the website for images of the site and facilities. The facilities and resources available include:

Dates and Duration of the Residencies

The residencies will take place at Cove Park between April and September 2018 and will last between two and four weeks, depending upon the needs of individual artists/filmmakers. It is not necessary to state your preferred dates in your application, as this will be discussed with each shortlisted applicant at interview.

The selected artists/filmmakers will each receive a fee of £400* per week.

*Please note: the Resident’s Fee is inclusive of VAT and payable by Cove Park to the artist/filmmaker. The appointment is on a freelance basis and the artist/filmmaker will be responsible for paying his or her own tax and national insurance.
