Moira Salt leads this free workshop using myth and myth-making in the landscape. Using writing and filmmaking practices inside Collective Gallery and outside on Calton Hill, we will imagine the perspective of mythological beings. Moira invites participants to ‘speak with the margins’ and connect to history, belonging and power through a relational web of methods – including writing, audio recording and collaging. Together we will explore the question: “what is myth, how do we shape it, and how does it shape our future?”
There are 12 places available and the workshop is open to artists who are based in Scotland and will take place at Collective Gallery, Edinburgh in their Hillside Gallery.
During the workshop Moira will introduce her practice to participants. Moira describes her practice as being situated within the land, using embodied filmmaking practices, archives, and transformational digital processes to explore complex entanglements across time. Moira is interested in where the human and non-human merge within contemporary politics, environmentalism, and spirituality.
Participants will take part in various practical exercises and the workshop will culminate in a screening of film work related to the workshop’s themes and methods. Participants are welcome to bring their own phone or recording devices, but it is not a necessity.

Venue Access
The workshop will take place at Collective Gallery, Edinburgh. Collective is located at City Observatory, 38 Calton Hill, Edinburgh, EH7 5AA.
This is the large walled complex at the top of Calton Hill. You can get to the top of Calton Hill via the pedestrian steps at Waterloo Place, the pedestrian path slope from Blenheim Place/Royal Terrace, or the vehicle access road from Regent Road.

About Moira Salt
Moira Salt is a trans-disciplinary artist who works with installations, including materials such as film, sound, performance, textiles, archives and found-objects. She explores identity and myth, and their site-specific connection to land. This takes her into complex relationships through time, and the entanglement of human and non-human histories, ecology, trade, colonialism, maleficent governments, and the power of transformation.
She has received residencies with David Dale, and is PLATFORM26 resident with Edinburgh Art Festival. She has shown work with places such as Glasgow International, Eastside Projects, Flatpack Film Festival, 16 Collective, and Listen Gallery. She participated in Syllabus VII, and has been a member of the Cinenova Working Group since 2020.
