MV Brown will lead this two-day free online workshop guiding participating artists through the creation of their own ‘digital twin’. Over the course of two days, MV Brown will guide participants in creating digital avatars of themselves via 3D scanning and motion capture. Beginning with smartphone-based 3D scanning, participants will learn to capture the human form and translate it into a digital model, which will then be refined and optimised in open-source 3D computer graphics software Blender.
There are 10 places available and the workshop series is open to artists who are based in Scotland and not in education. The workshop is for beginners who are interested in working with these softwares, some experience of them is helpful but not necessary for a full experience. A degree of computer literacy is required and participants will need a laptop/computer and a smartphone with a good wifi connection.
The workshop will cover rigging avatars using 3D character software Mixamo and exploring its animation library, followed by experimenting with motion capture to animate movement and gestures. With the AI-powered motion capture tool Radical Motion, attendees will place avatars into scenes, integrate 3D objects, and create short animated films. Augmented reality will also be introduced through Adobe Aero, offering new ways to present and interact with digital avatars in spatial and performative contexts.
By the end of the two days, each participant will have produced a fully animated digital avatar and gained practical skills in 3D scanning, rigging, motion capture, scene composition, and AR integration. These skills can be applied to extend artistic practice into the digital realm, opening new avenues for self-representation, performance, and creative experimentation.
The deadline to sign up for this workshop is 10am on 2 February 2026.

Rooted in performance, MV Brown’s practice uses the human body and new technologies to explore tensions across embodied subjectivity, the body as spectacle and socio-techno constructs of gender and sexuality. Their practice builds upon questions around the (non) performance of daily life and identity in a post-internet context. Drawing on cyberfeminist, glitch-feminist and posthumanist approaches; they investigate avatars, prototypes, ‘false-self’hoods and the fallacy of the ‘IRL’. Their works are realised as live performance, performance to camera, and sculpture.
Brown has an MLitt in Fine Art Practice from Glasgow School of Art, and an MA in Film & Television Studies and English Literature from the University of Glasgow. Previous exhibitions and performances include Jerwood Survey III (UK touring group show), French Street Gallery, Glasgow; Glasgow International; Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh; Celine Gallery, Glasgow; Maleki House, London; Grace Exhibition Space, NYC; and Venice International Performance Art Week. Residencies include Studio Somewhere, Tramway, Glasgow; Cove Park, Argyll & Bute; and the Art/Life Institute, New York.
