Alchemy Film & Arts and LUX Scotland are working together to provide a programme of writing workshops focusing on experimental film and artists’ moving image, in partnership with The Skinny.

Eight early-career writers based in Scotland will be selected to participate in four online workshops, which are planned to take place between mid-January and mid-May next year, alongside LUX Scotland’s and Alchemy’s 2021 online programmes – including their respective festivals.

Led by Rosamund West, Editor-in-Chief of The Skinny, the workshops are designed to broaden and deepen participants’ understanding of experimental film and artists’ moving image within a range of critical contexts, with further contributions from Artist Moving Image Festival programmers Adam Benmakhlouf and Tako Taal and Alchemy programmers Jonathan Ali and Rhea Storr.

Workshops will be facilitated by LUX Scotland’s Director Kitty Anderson and Learning Manager Eve Smith and Alchemy’s Co-Directors Rachael Disbury and Michael Pattison.

All access requirements for participation in the workshops (e.g. BSL interpretation and childcare costs) will be organised as appropriate.

In addition to the workshops, participants will also have the option to write a short critical response to LUX Scotland’s and/or Alchemy’s 2021 programmes. Texts will be edited by Rosamund, published by The Skinny and featured on the SUPERLUX website and Alchemy’s website. Writers of published texts will each be paid £100.
