Cove Park Experimental Film & Artists’ Moving Image residencies 2018 Announced

We’re excited to announce that Andrew Black, Jamie Crewe, Kimberley O’Neill and Stina Wirfelt have been selected to take part in Cove Parks new Experimental Film & Artists’ Moving Image residencies programme for 2018. This new series of funded residencies, delivered in partnership with LUX Scotland and Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival, will run between May and September 2018.

Andrew Black graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a BA in Fine Art Painting and Print-making in 2012. Since then he has been a visiting lecturer at Leeds College of Art and has served as a committee member with Glasgow based Transmission, from 2016 to 2018. Andrew has also had a number of solo, two-person and group exhibitions.

Jamie Crewe is an artist, a singer, and a vicious changeling who lives in Glasgow. They graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2009 with a BA in Contemporary Fine Art, and from Glasgow School of Art in 2015 with a Master of Fine Art. They have presented two solo exhibitions — Female Executioner, Gasworks, London (2017), and But what was most awful was a girl who was singing, Transmission, Glasgow (2016) — and have been involved in recent group exhibitions in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Copenhagen, and Vienna. Their book GLAIRE was published in 2017 by by Ma Bibliothéque, and they have presented their performance work Potash Lesson (2016) in Glasgow, London, Berlin and Belfast. Jamie is currently developing a new moving image work, commissioned by the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, as well as working towards a solo exhibition at Tramway, Glasgow, for September 2018.

Kimberley O’Neill is an artist based in Glasgow. Recent activities include, Cinenova: Now Showing, The Showroom, London (2018), Circuits of Bad Conscience, The Telfer Gallery, Glasgow (2017); Conatus TV, Edinburgh Art Festival (2016). O’Neill was shortlisted for the Margaret Tait Award 2017/​18, and will present a solo exhibition as part of Satellites Programme at Collective Gallery, Edinburgh, in February 2019.

Stina Wirfelt is an artist based in Glasgow. Her videos identify and construct points where different stories meet and merge. She graduated from Malmö Art Academy in 2007 and participated in LUX Associate Artist Program 2008 – 2009. In 2016 she was artist in residence at The Thistle Foundation in Craigmillar. The resulting video, Rolls and Shutters, premiered at BFI London Film Festival and has since been screened at Hamburg Short Film Festival and Cample Line Gallery.

Experimental Film & Artists’ Moving Image residency programme Cove Park, in association with LUX Scotland and Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival award up to four funded residencies each year. Cove Park’s summer residency programme provides the time and support for artists to focus exclusively upon their own practice. The emphasis is upon research, experimentation, creative exchange across art forms and the development of new work.
